The Hedleys Adult Programme can be full or part time and provides a range of activities to allow youg people social, leisure and creative opportunities alongside their peers. It offers a perfect transition package for young disabled adults using their personal budgets.
The programme is based at Hedleys College. We run morning and afternoons sessions with opportunity to stay for lunch. Sessions are 2 hours long and run from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm. The courses run term time only alongside other college courses, over a period of 38 weeks or less.
All applicants are welcomed to use their personal budget, social services or health acre funding to purchase individual care support and/or therapy.
Please see the case studies below of two young people on the Hedleys Adult Programme.
Danny graduated from Hedleys College in 2013 from our Vocational Pathway. While on this programme supported by the College Work Experience Co-Ordinator and Vocational Tutor Danny started a placement at Sunderland based Tanfield Group. To be able to continue to benefit from this supported work placement when his college placement ended, Danny is currently using his own personal budget to access supported work experience placement via the Adult Programme. Danny has now also got a permanent role at MEARS another local employer.
Rebecca graduated from Hedleys College Communication and Choices – Sensory Curriculum Programme in 2013. Rebecca and her family use her personal budget to support her complex needs. Her programme includes elements of care, therapy and essential social opportunities to further develop her independence and communication skills.
